Will the Storycorder software work on a Macintosh computer?
Yes – if you have an Intel-based Mac computer running OS 10.5 Leopard or later, plus a full copy of Windows XP SP2 or later, or a full copy of Windows Vista.
-
How long a book can be read using the Storycorder software?
You have a total of one hour of recording time – an indicator on the software will show you the amount of time on the disk that you have used up as you go. This is not how long it takes to read the book, but the length of the recording itself.
If you want to read a book that requires more than an hour of recording time, simply start a second disk of the same book.

Is it possible to make an mp3 of my recording instead of burning a CD-Rom?
It is not possible to directly make an mp3 file of your recording from Storycorder. However, you can burn your recording to a CD-ROM in the normal manner. Then use Windows Media Player to ‘rip’ the story file from the CD and convert it to an mp3 file. See your Windows Media Player for instructions. Reading2U is presently developing the necessary programs to make an mp3 file. This add-on will be available soon.

The Storycorder record button doesn’t seem to work.
There are two things you can do to remedy this problem. First, your microphone must be connected before you launch Storycorder. Close Storycorder, connect your microphone, and re-start Storycorder. If that doesn’t remedy the problem, your microphone is not properly setup in Windows. See the Troubleshooting page of the FAQ’s.
Storycorder does not Record Error
This error is typically first encountered when you are in the Setup step making adjustments to the Recording Sound Level. You will press the RECORD button but nothing will happen. There are several possible causes:
Microphone not Properly Connected
Note that your microphone must be connected and functioning prior to launching Storycorder. Close Storycorder, connect your microphone to the appropriate jack, and then launch the program.
If that does not correct the problem, continue with the troubleshooting.
Microphone not Properly Setup
Your computer’s microphone properties must be properly adjusted in order for your Storycorder software to produce a quality recording. If the settings are not as they should be you’ll notice that there is little or no sound on the recording or it is garbled and the Storycorder volume controls don’t seem to do much good. Making the correct settings is easily done. Follow the following procedures
If your operating system is Vista proceed as follows:
Locate and click on the Windows START button.
From the menu, select CONTROL PANEL.
From the menu, select SOUND.
A multi-tabbed dialog box will pop up.
Select the RECORDING tab.
Note here that we have only one microphone plugged into the computer. If there is more than one device, you will see a check mark next to the one that is active.
Select the active device.
Select PROPERTIES.
Another multi-tabbed dialog box will pop up.
Select the GENERAL tab.
Make sure the settings on your box look like this one.
Select the LEVELS tab.
Make sure the settings on your box look like this one.
Select the ADVANCED tab.
Make sure the settings on your box look like this one.
Once these settings have been confirmed, make sure that the microphone is still connected, launch Storycorder, go to the Setup step and adjust the Sound Level.
If this does not solve the problem, there is a difficulty with your hardware. Contact your computer vendor for further instructions.
